We do not "work" for fruit; we "abide" so that fruit can grow. Today’s text offers a beautiful way to see how these fruits connect to our daily walk with Christ.

Love as the Source: Are you struggling to follow God’s lead today? Don't start with your "effort." Start with His love. When we remember how much we are loved, obedience stops feeling like a chore and starts feeling like a response.

Joy as the Flower: Holiness isn't meant to be grim or stoic. Joy is the "Flower of Holiness." A life set apart for God should be the most vibrant, attractive, and joyful life in the room.

Faithfulness of Courage: It takes courage to be faithful when the world is changing. Faith is not just a belief we hold; it is a "Faithfulness of Courage" that allows us to stand firm when things get difficult.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to stop trying to "produce" these virtues on my own. Instead, help me to sink my roots deep into Your Grace. May my love for You be the source of my obedience, and may Your peace be the natural outcome of my trust in You today. Amen.

Why I Don’t Just Call Myself a Christian Anymore

A declaration of intent in a world of diluted definitions.

Word Ministry

A declaration of intent in a world of diluted definitions.

In today’s cultural landscape, the word Christian has become a very large, very vague umbrella.

It is often treated as a demographic checkbox, a political affiliation, or a cultural heritage passed down like an heirloom. You can claim the title without ever opening the Book that defines it. You can wear the label without ever submitting to the Lord who bought it.

That is why, for this ministry and for my life, I find it necessary to be specific.

I do not simply say I am a Christian.

I say I am a Bible-believing Christ-follower.

Why the distinction?

1. The Authority of Every. Single. Word.

To be a Bible-believing follower is to accept that Scripture is not a buffet. We do not get to walk down the line with a tray, picking the verses that affirm our lifestyle and skipping over the ones that challenge our sins.

When I say I believe the Bible, I mean every single word.

It means believing the difficult passages as firmly as the comforting ones. It means acknowledging that God’s definition of truth trumps my definition of happiness. If the Bible says it, that settles it—whether modern culture agrees or not.

2. Rejecting the Distortions

We are living in an era of customized Christianity, where Jesus is often remade in our own image. To be clear on where I stand, I must also be clear on what I reject:

I am not a Progressive Christian. I reject the notion that the Gospel needs a software update to fit modern sensibilities. God’s Word is immutable; it does not change with the times. We do not judge the Bible by our culture; we judge our culture by the Bible.

I reject the Prosperity Gospel. I do not view Jesus as a means to financial gain or worldly comfort. The Gospel is not a transaction; it is a transformation. We do not twist God’s Word for our own benefit or treat the Cross as a ladder to success.

3. The Jesus of the Bible

Many say they follow Jesus, but are they following the Jesus of the text?

The Jesus of the Bible is not merely a life coach or a symbol of tolerance. He is the Suffering Servant, the Risen King, and the Judge of the living and the dead. He calls us to deny ourselves, pick up our crosses, and follow Him—not to self-actualization, but to sanctification.

Unashamed

This distinction isn't about arrogance; it’s about accuracy. It is about standing on the Rock rather than the shifting sands of opinion.

The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 1:16:

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes...

I am not ashamed of the hard truths. I am not ashamed of the narrow path. I do not water down the Gospel because a watered-down Gospel has no power to save.

I am a Bible-believing Christ-follower : I. Believe. Every. Single. Word.

The Roof Breakers: Why Faith Sometimes Requires a Trowel

We know they tore the house apart to get to Jesus.

Word Ministry

We know they tore the house apart to get to Jesus. While the miracle is scriptural, the character names and the specific conversation about the repairs are a creative reimagining to explore the human side of the Gospel.)

It is one of the most beloved scenes in the Gospels. Four desperate friends carrying a paralyzed man. A crowd so thick it blocks the door. A wild idea to climb the stairs, dig through the clay and thatch, and lower their friend right in front of the Son of God.

We love the audacity of it. We love the "interruption." We love that Jesus looks up, sees their faith, and commands the man to walk.

But yesterday, I’ve been thinking about the scene that happened after the scene.

I’ve been thinking about the hole in the ceiling.

The Argument on the Stairs

Imagine the group for a moment. Let’s give them names. There’s Caleb, the initiator who refuses to take no for an answer. There’s Thomas, the skeptic who calculates the risks. There’s Jude, the muscle, and Levi, the negotiator. And on the mat lies Elian, a man who hasn’t felt his legs in years.

When they arrive at the house in Capernaum, Thomas likely points out the obvious: "It’s over. We can’t get in. The crowd is too dense."

But Caleb looks up. "We don't go through. We go over."

I imagine the argument on the stairs was intense. To dig through a 1st-century Palestinian roof wasn't just rude; it was destruction of property. It was digging through baked mud, heavy beams, and brushwood. It meant raining debris down on a Rabbi.

Thomas would have argued, "We’ll be arrested!" Levi would have worried, "We can’t afford the damages!" But they dug anyway. They broke the barrier because their love for their friend outweighed their fear of propriety.

The Theology of Repair

We know the middle of the story. The dust falls. The Pharisees scoff. Jesus speaks. Elian stands up, grabs his mat, and dances out the door.

But here is where our imagination needs to finish the work.

The sun sets. The crowd disperses. Jesus moves on to the shore. What happens to the roof?

I like to believe that the four friends didn’t just run off to the tavern to celebrate. I believe they went back up the stairs. And this time, Elian—the young man who had been carried up—walked up beside them.

Imagine them there in the twilight, mixing fresh mud, re-weaving the thatch, and passing buckets to one another.

"I can't believe I'm doing this," Elian might have laughed, balancing on the edge of the roof—a dangerous place for one who was paralyzed that morning. "I'm fixing the hole I came through."

There is a lesson here: Faith gives us the boldness to break through, but gratitude gives us the integrity to build back up.

Stewardship of the Miracle

In our walk with God, we often focus on the "breaking." We break through our fears, our addictions, or our pride to get to the feet of Jesus. We make a mess of things in our desperation. And God, in His grace, honors that desperation. He heals us.

But true discipleship involves the stewardship of that healing.

If God heals your marriage, you still have to do the work of rebuilding trust. If God delivers you from a financial crisis, you still have to pay your debts. If God forgives your past anger, you may still need to go back and apologize to the people you hurt.

The friends in Capernaum became the "Roof Breakers," but they also became the repair crew. They didn't fix the roof to earn the miracle; they fixed it because they were thankful for it.

Your Turn to Climb

Perhaps you are standing outside a crowded room today. You feel paralyzed by a circumstance, or you are carrying a friend who is.

Do not be afraid to grab the trowel. Do not be afraid to disrupt the status quo to get to Jesus. Dig the hole.

But remember, once the healing comes—and it will—do not just walk away. Stand up on your new, strong legs, and help your brothers fix the roof. That is where the fellowship is sweetest: not just in the receiving of the gift, but in the work of the restoration.

The Church of Distraction

An Indictment of Christianity

Word Ministry

An Indictment of Christianity

The image before us is not a gentle nudge; it’s a sledgehammer to the stained-glass facade of contemporary Christendom. We live in an era where Christians are more likely to be known for what they are against than what they are for, and where internal squabbles are fought with more fervor than the battle for souls. The list of distractions in the image is a pathetic roll call of our collective failure.

We fight over the timing of an end-times event, obsessing over charts and timelines while the world burns around us. We form tribes around preferred Bible translations, as if the King James Version were dictated by God himself and every other rendition is a tool of the devil. We debate the mechanics of the Trinity and the validity of spiritual gifts with the intellectual arrogance of medieval scholastics, forgetting the simplicity, and purity of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And, in a truly bizarre turn, a vocal minority has even resurrected the pre-scientific debate about the shape of the earth, making a mockery of faith in the eyes of a skeptical world.

These are not harmless intellectual exercises. They are a cancer. They breed division, foster spiritual pride, and, most devastatingly, they paralyze the Church. While Christians are busy arguing about whether the rapture is pre-trib, mid-trib, or post-trib, their neighbors are dying without hope. While they split hairs over Greek verb tenses, the message of God’s love is being drowned out by the cacophony of their self-righteous bickering. In doing so, we have opened the invitation for the world to “come see” the Christians endlessly debating each other.

The call to "go tell somebody about Jesus" is not a complex theological proposition. It's a simple command. It's about sharing the hope, the grace, and the redemption found in Christ with a broken world. But how can we do that when we are so consumed by our own internal wars? How can we offer a message of unity and love when our own house is so divided and full of vitriol?

This image is a wake-up call. It’s a plea to stop majoring on the minors. It's a demand that we tear down the idols of theological tribalism and refocus our energy on the only thing that truly matters. The world doesn't need another debate about the Nephilim or the correct interpretation of tongues. It needs to hear about Jesus. It's time for the Church to stop arguing and start acting like the body of Christ. It's time to shut up and go tell somebody about Jesus.

<picture></picture>

<g>

</g><polyline points="15 3 21 3 21 9"></polyline><polyline points="9 21 3 21 3 15"></polyline><line x1="21" x2="14" y1="3" y2="10"></line><line x1="3" x2="10" y1="21" y2="14"></line>

We have tragically invited the world to "come see" Christians endlessly debating each other rather than the Savior we proclaim. Some are trivial, but others shape the trajectory of our souls.

Here is a four-step hierarchy of decision-making found in Scripture. It doesn’t just contrast "right vs. wrong"; it challenges us to move from bad, to good, to better, and finally, to the best.

Let’s look at this ladder of choices and see where we stand today.

1. A Bad Choice: Retreating to Comfort

“And [Hobab] said to him, ‘I will not go; but I will depart to my own land and to my kindred.’” — Numbers 10:30

In this passage, Moses invites his brother-in-law, Hobab, to journey with Israel to the Promised Land. Moses promises, "Come with us, and we will treat you well."

Hobab’s response is a tragedy of missed opportunity. He chooses the familiar over the faithful. He chooses his "own land" over God’s destination.

The Lesson: This is a bad choice because it prioritizes past comfort over future calling. It is the choice to stay where it is safe rather than go where God is moving.

2. A Good Choice: Stepping into the Unknown

“Then they called Rebekah and said to her, ‘Will you go with this man?’ And she said, ‘I will go.’” — Genesis 24:58

Contrast Hobab with Rebekah. When Abraham’s servant came looking for a bride for Isaac, Rebekah was faced with a massive decision: leave everything she knew to marry a man she had never met, in a land she had never seen.

Her response was immediate and courageous: "I will go."

The Lesson: This is a good choice. It is the willingness to step out in faith. It is the "Yes" that launches a spiritual journey. Without this kind of choice, we never leave our comfort zones to find God’s will.

3. A Better Choice: A Public Commitment

“...choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve... But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” — Joshua 24:15

Joshua stands before the nation of Israel at the end of his life. He doesn't just ask them to follow; he draws a line in the sand. He demands a specific, exclusive allegiance to Yahweh, rejecting the idols of the culture around them.

The Lesson: This is a better choice because it is a defined, lifelong commitment of service. It isn't just a one-time "I will go" (like Rebekah); it is a daily "I will serve." It takes faith and turns it into dedication.

4. The Best Choice: The One Thing Needed

“But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” — Luke 10:42

Finally, we arrive at the feet of Jesus. Martha is busy making the "better" choice—she is serving, working, and doing. But Mary is sitting and listening.

Jesus tells us that Mary chose the "best" part. While Hobab chose comfort, Rebekah chose faith, and Joshua chose service, Mary chose intimacy.

The Lesson: This is the best choice. Service is noble, and faith is essential, but communion with Christ is the ultimate goal. This is the only choice that "will not be taken away." Service ends when we can no longer work; intimacy lasts into eternity.

The Takeaway

The outline challenges us to examine our current season of life:

Are you Hobab, clinging to the familiar?

Are you Rebekah, willing to start the journey?

Are you Joshua, dedicated to serving God’s house?

Or are you Mary, understanding that being with Jesus is even more important than doing things for Him?

When you don't get the title, build the Kingdom when you get passed over.

The story involves two brothers. One (Jacob) secures the family inheritance, the capital, and the prestige. The other (Esau) is left with seemingly nothing—no title, no land, and no "blessing."

By all traditional metrics, Esau was out of the game. But while the "chosen" brother spent decades navigating internal family politics and labor disputes, Esau quietly executed one of the most successful pivots in ancient history.

Here is the "Esau Doctrine" for modern leaders:

1. The "Blue Ocean" Pivot

Esau realized the family territory was too small for two massive operations. Instead of fighting a civil war for scraps in a saturated market, he voluntarily moved to a rugged, unclaimed region (Seir).

• Lesson: When the market is crowded, don't compete. Relocate. Find a territory where you can set the rules.

2. Speed to Structure

The text records that Esau established "Chiefs" and "Kings" in his new land centuries before his brother’s descendants had a centralized government.

• Lesson: You don’t need the legacy title to professionalize. While the incumbents are resting on their laurels, you can out-structure and out-govern them.

3. The Power of "Enough"

Years later, when the brothers reunited, the successful brother tried to pay Esau off, perhaps out of guilt. Esau refused the capital, saying simply, "I have enough."

• Lesson: The ultimate flex in negotiation isn't taking more; it's autonomy. When you are self-sufficient, you cannot be bought, and you cannot be threatened.

The Takeaway:

You might not have been the first choice. You might not have the "birthright" or the VC funding.

Do not wait to be chosen. Go to the hill country, build your structure, and crown yourself.

#Leadership #Strategy #Resilience #AncientWisdom #BusinessPivot y2="14"></line>

If you look at the headlines today, it doesn't feel like a "Kingdom of Peace." It feels like chaos.

This creates a massive theological tension for us. We read in Scripture that Jesus has been given "all authority in heaven and on earth" (Matthew 28:18). We read that He is currently seated at the right hand of God, reigning until His enemies are made a footstool. We sing songs about His victory.

But then we look out the window. We see war, sickness, addiction, and corruption.

This tension leads many people to adopt a theology of postponement (often called Premillennialism). It’s the idea that Jesus wanted to bring the Kingdom, but the world was too wicked, so He hit the "pause" button. In this view, the real Kingdom is future. We are just holding the fort until He comes back to fix the mess.

But there is a different, more robust way to view this—one that fits better with the ancient hope of the Church. It suggests that the Kingdom isn't missing; it’s just in battle.

To understand it, you have to understand the theology of the Dog on the Leash.

The Binding of the Strong Man

In Revelation 20, we read a controversial passage about an angel coming down from heaven holding a key and a great chain. He seizes the dragon (Satan) and binds him for a thousand years.

Scholars like Homer Hailey and Jim McGuiggan have argued for decades that this isn't a future event. It’s a description of what happened at the Cross. Jesus said Himself in Matthew 12 that to plunder a house, one must first "bind the strong man."

But if Satan is bound now, why is there still evil?

Imagine a vicious, aggressive dog in a front yard. Before the owner intervened, that dog roamed the entire neighborhood. He chased cars, bit children, and controlled the street. Everyone was terrified.

Then, the Master comes out. He puts a heavy iron collar on the dog and stakes a chain into the ground.

The dog is now "bound."

Here is the nuance we miss: Being bound doesn't mean the dog is dead. It doesn't even mean he is silent.

• He still barks.

• He still looks terrifying.

• And—this is crucial—if you wander inside the radius of that chain, he can still bite you.

If you walk right up to him (temptation) or ignore the warning signs (sin), he still has the power to destroy you.

The Limit of the Leash

So, what changed? If the dog can still bite, what was the point of the chain?

Revelation 20:3 gives us the specific reason for the binding: "...so that he might not deceive the nations any longer."

Before Christ, the nations (Gentiles) were largely cut off from God, shrouded in darkness. The "dog" roamed the whole earth. But the Cross drove a stake into the ground. The chain was set. Satan’s power to universally blind the nations was broken.

He can no longer stop the Gospel from crossing borders. He can no longer hold the world in total darkness.

The Mailman Always Delivers

This brings us to the most comforting part of the analogy.

Why do we chain a dog? Not necessarily to stop him from barking, but to ensure he cannot stop authorized visitors.

Think of Jesus—or the Church—as the Mailman. The dog can pull on that chain until he chokes. He can snarl and snap. But he cannot reach the sidewalk. He cannot stop the message from being delivered to the house.

This is the reality of the Church Age. We are not living in a time of perfect peace where the dog is dead. We are living in a time of contested victory.

• The Victory: The Gospel is reaching every corner of the globe. The Kingdom is growing. The Master is inside the house.

• The Contest: The enemy is furious because he knows his time is short, and he is thrashing against the chain.

Living with Kingdom Confidence

How does this change your day?

It moves you from fear to caution. You don't need to be terrified that the devil is running the world; he isn't. But you do need to be wise. As Peter wrote, he still prowls like a roaring lion (1 Peter 5:8).

Stay out of the radius of the chain. Keep your life centered on the sidewalk of the Spirit. And take heart in the fact that no matter how loud the barking gets, the message has already been delivered.

The King is on the throne. The dog is on a leash. Walk with confidence.

If you enjoyed this reflection, subscribe for more weekly dives into Biblical theology and the hope of the Resurrection.

Guilty as Charged?

"If you were arrested for being a Christian, would they have enough evidence to hold you?"

Word Ministry

"If you were arrested for being a Christian, would they have enough evidence to hold you?"

The Courtroom of Life

Imagine for a moment that being a follower of Jesus is a crime. The prosecutor is trying to build a case against you. They search your home, your workplace, and your browser history. They interview your neighbors, your coworkers, and the barista you see every morning.

What kind of evidence would they find?

Circumstantial Evidence: Is the only proof a dusty Bible on a shelf, a church attendance record, or a cross around your neck? In a court of law, circumstantial evidence is often not enough to secure a conviction. Anyone can wear a symbol or sit in a pew.

Hard Evidence: The "smoking gun" of the Christian life is found in The Fruit of the Spirit.

Scripture tells us exactly what this evidence looks like.

The Witness Stand

"Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds." — James 2:18 (NIV)

If your neighbors were put on the witness stand, would they testify to your patience? If your coworkers were subpoenaed, would they speak of your integrity and kindness, even when the boss isn't looking?

The evidence that "convicts" us isn't religious jargon; it is:

Love where there is hatred.

Peace in the middle of chaos.

Patience when things go wrong.

Self-control when we want to lash out.

Jesus said, "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another" (John 13:35). Love is the ultimate proof. It is the undeniable fingerprint of God on a human life.

The Verdict

The goal of this question isn't to make us feel guilty or ashamed; it's to wake us up. It’s a reminder that our faith is meant to be lived out loud—not for show, but for service.

If you feel like the "evidence" in your life has been a little light lately, don't despair. The wonderful thing about walking with God is that His mercies are new every morning. You can start building a new "case" today.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your grace that covers me when I fall short. I ask that You help me live a life that leaves a trail of evidence. Is this Universalism? Does this ignore the reality of sin and judgment?

It is a valid concern. However, dismissing the quote misses a vital distinction between our theological conclusions and our interpersonal ethics.

The Distinction: Destiny vs. Dignity

If we interpret Saunders' statement as a claim about destiny (that everyone is factually going to heaven), it fails the biblical test. Jesus spoke frequently of the "narrow gate" and the reality of separation from God.

However, if we interpret it as a strategy for dignity, it is deeply profound. The phrase "as if" is the hinge. It describes the believer’s posture, not the recipient's status.

The "Weight of Glory"

This mirrors the sentiment of C.S. Lewis in his famous sermon, The Weight of Glory. Lewis argued that if we truly understood the eternal nature of the human soul—that every person you meet will one day be a creature of nightmare or a creature of such glory you would be tempted to worship them—we would never treat anyone as "ordinary."

Lewis wrote: "There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal."

To treat someone "as if they are going to heaven" is to acknowledge the Imago Dei (Image of God) in them. It means according them the respect, patience, and love due to a creation of God, regardless of their current spiritual state.

The Danger and the Hope

There is a danger, of course. If treating someone "as if they are going to heaven" means we never share the Gospel because we pretend they are already safe, we have failed to love them truly.

But the reverse is also dangerous. If we treat people "as if they are going to hell"—with dismissal, judgment, or disdain—we often validate their reasons for rejecting the faith in the first place.

Perhaps the sweet spot is this: We hold to the biblical truth that salvation is found in Christ alone, while simultaneously treating every neighbor, stranger, and enemy with the infinite worth of a future fellow heir.

We treat them with hope. And sometimes, being treated with that kind of irrational hope is exactly what startles a person into wondering about the God who inspires it.

Who is Jesus Knocking For?

Scripture Focus: Revelation 3:20 "Behold, I stand at the door and knock.

Word Ministry

Scripture Focus: Revelation 3:20 "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. While the sentiment of Jesus desiring us is true, the context of this verse reveals a much more challenging message for us as believers.

As the text above reminds us, this letter wasn't written to the lost; it was written to the church at Laodicea. These were people who already claimed the name of Christ but had become "lukewarm." They weren't cold to the things of God, but they weren't on fire either. They were comfortable, complacent, and undisturbed by their spiritual stagnation.

The Challenge for Us

Jesus wasn't knocking on a stranger's door. He was knocking on the door of His own people—believers who had effectively shut Him out of their daily fellowship. He was asking to be let back in to sit on the throne of their hearts.

This changes the verse from a comforting invitation for "someone else" to a piercing question for us:

Have we, as Christians, become lukewarm?

Have we become so busy or self-sufficient that Jesus is standing on the outside of our daily lives, waiting to be invited back into fellowship?

True Salvation

If we want to share how to become a Christian, Scripture gives us clear paths in passages like Acts 2:38 or Acts 8:37—repentance, confession, and baptism. But Revelation 3:20 is a call to revival for those already saved.

Reflection

Let’s stop misusing this verse as just a salvation text and start letting it do its intended work: convicting the church. Do not be content with a lukewarm faith. If you hear His knock today, it’s a call to intimacy. Open the door, repent of complacency, and dine with the King once again.

Prayer

Lord, forgive us for the times we have kept You at the door of our lives. We don't want to be lukewarm Christians who are comfortable without Your active presence. We open the door today. Come in, take Your rightful place, and rekindle the fire in our hearts. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

A Complete Salvation: Rediscovering the Breadth of the Gospel

In our modern abbreviate the Gospel. We might reduce it to a simple "get out of jail free" card or view it strictly as an emotional experience.

But recently, I came across a vintage sermon outline simply titled "A Complete Salvation." Attributed to "J.G.," this small clipping serves as a powerful reminder that the work of Christ is not partial—it is total. It addresses our past, transforms our present, and secures our future.

Let’s walk through these pillars of a complete salvation together.

1. Saviour from Sin's Penalty

Scripture: “Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.” (2 Corinthians 9:15)

The foundation of our faith begins here. We cannot work our way out of the debt we owe. The wages of sin is death, a penalty that is absolute and terrifying. But a "complete salvation" begins with the cancellation of that debt.

Paul calls this the "unspeakable gift." It is the gift of Justification—being declared righteous not because of what we have done, but because of who Jesus is. He took the penalty we deserved so that we could receive the grace we did not earn. This is the starting line of the Christian walk: the relief of a burden lifted.

2. Deliverer from Sin's Power

Scripture: “But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.” (Romans 6:17)

Many Christians stop at the first point—they are happy to escape the penalty of sin, yet they remain enslaved to its habits. But a complete salvation doesn't just save you from hell; it saves you from the mastery of sin right now.

Paul reminds the Romans that while they used to be slaves to sin, a change has occurred. Through "obedience from the heart"—a reference to their response to the Gospel—the chains have been broken. This is Sanctification. The Holy Spirit empowers us to walk in newness of life. We are no longer helpless victims of our impulses; we are delivered people walking in freedom.

3. Leader in Service

Scripture: “For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish.” (2 Corinthians 2:15)

Salvation is not a spectator sport. Once we are saved from the penalty and delivered from the power of sin, we are enlisted into service. We are called to follow the Leader.

The Apostle Paul uses the imagery of a "sweet savour" (aroma). In the ancient world, a triumphal procession included burning incense. To us, this means our lives should smell like Christ to the world around us. Whether through our work, our family life, or our ministry, a complete salvation turns the saved individual into a servant for others. We are saved to serve.

4. Hope in Resurrection

Scripture: “...Death is swallowed up in victory.” (1 Corinthians 15:54)

Finally, a complete salvation looks forward. If our hope in Christ were limited only to this life, we would be, as Paul says elsewhere, "of all men most miserable." But the Gospel conquers the final enemy: Death itself.

This is Glorification. The assurance that the grave is not the end. Because He lives, we also will live. This hope stabilizes us when the world feels chaotic. We know the final chapter of the story, and it ends in victory.

Summary

The beauty of this old outline is its holistic nature.

Past: He saved us from the Penalty.

Present: He saves us from the Power and leads us in Service.

Future: He will save us through the Resurrection.

Let us not settle for a partial faith. Let us embrace the fullness of the complete salvation found in Jesus Christ.

Grace Under Fire: The Biblical Blueprint for High-Stakes We face tight deadlines, conflicting personalities, market uncertainty, and the weight of making calls that affect other people's livelihoods.

The world tells us that handling pressure means "gritting your teeth," hustling harder, or simply developing a thicker skin. But biblical leadership offers a different path: Grace under pressure.

This isn't just about coping with stress; it is about demonstrating a supernatural peace and strategic wisdom that defies the chaos around you. It is the ability to lead from a higher perspective because your stability isn't based on the quarterly report, but on an unshakable foundation.

Here is how four biblical leaders exemplified this grace in situations far more intense than the average Monday morning meeting.

1. Nehemiah: The Grace of Focus Amidst Distraction

Nehemiah was tasked with a massive construction project—rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem—while facing constant external threats. His enemies, Sanballat and Tobiah, didn't just attack physically; they used rumors, false reports, and invitations to endless "meetings" to try and slow him down.

The pressure on Nehemiah was the pressure of distraction.

His response was legendary in its simplicity. When they tried to lure him away from the work, he sent a message saying, "I am doing a great work and I cannot come down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and come down to you?" (Nehemiah 6:3).

The Workplace Application: Grace under pressure is the ability to identify noise and refuse to engage with it. As a leader, you will be bombarded with things that feel urgent but aren't important. Grace is having the clarity of mission to say a polite but firm "no" to distractions so you can stay on the wall and finish the work.

2. Joseph: The Grace of Perspective Over Politics

Joseph’s career path involved being sold into slavery by his own brothers, falsely accused of harassment, and forgotten in prison for years. Eventually, he rose to become the second most powerful man in Egypt.

The pressure on Joseph was the pressure of betrayal and resentment.

When his brothers—the architects of his suffering—eventually stood before him needing help, Joseph had the power to destroy them. Instead, he demonstrated profound emotional intelligence. He looked past the personal offense and saw God’s providential hand. He told them, "As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good" (Genesis 50:20).

The Workplace Application: It is easy to lead when everyone likes you. It takes grace to lead people who have undermined you in the past. True leadership pressure means rising above "office politics" and personal grudges to make decisions that serve the "big picture" health of the organization, rather than your own ego.

3. Esther: The Grace of Strategic Courage

Queen Esther faced a terrifying "zero-tolerance" policy. Her people were targeted for genocide, but approaching the King without an invitation to advocate for them was punishable by death.

The pressure on Esther was high-stakes advocacy where one wrong move could end her career—and her life.

Esther didn't panic, but she also didn't rush in impulsively. She demonstrated grace through preparation and timing. She called for a corporate fast for spiritual preparation, resolving, "If I perish, I perish" (Esther 4:16). She then used sophisticated hospitality strategies—hosting two banquets—to build rapport with the King before making her big ask (Esther 5).

The Workplace Application: Sometimes leadership requires speaking difficult truths to power or taking a stand on ethics. Grace under pressure means you don't just blurt out the truth. You prepare strategically. You wait for the right moment, the right environment, and the right emotional tone to ensure your message is actually heard.

4. Paul: The Grace of Calm in Chaos

In Acts 27, the Apostle Paul was a prisoner on a ship headed to Rome. A massive, multi-day tempest struck the vessel. The professional sailors panicked, giving up all hope and attempting to abandon the ship in a lifeboat.

The pressure on Paul was total situational chaos and collective panic.

Despite being a prisoner, Paul emerged as the de facto leader. Why? Because he was the only calm person in the room. He stood in the middle of the storm, urged the crew to eat for strength, and assured them of God’s protection. His internal peace became an anchor for the entire crew.

The Workplace Application: When a project is failing, budgets are slashed, or a crisis hits the company, the team looks to the leader to gauge how they should react. The leader's primary job in a crisis is to be the "anxiety regulator." Your calm is contagious. Grace under pressure means stabilizing those around you by trusting in a source outside the storm.

The Banquets of Esther: God in the Some days we feel "saved," and other days we feel distant. However, the Gospel is not built on how we feel, but on what God has accomplished. Our assurance rests on three immovable facts.

Fact 1: Jesus Did It. Redemption is not a collaborative effort; it is a finished work. In John 19:30, Jesus’ final cry was, "It is finished." He didn't say, "It is started." He offered one sacrifice for sins forever and sat down (Hebrews 10:12). The work is complete. You cannot add to it, and you cannot improve upon it.

Fact 2: God Says It. We know we are safe because God has given us His written testimony. Just as the Israelites were safe behind the blood-stained doors because God promised, "When I see the blood, I will pass over you" (Exodus 12:13), we are sure because the Word of God makes us sure. Acts 13:38-39 declares that through this Man, forgiveness is preached to you.

Fact 3: I Believe It. The bridge between God’s provision and our soul is faith. When we move from intellectual agreement to personal trust—saying "Lord, I believe" (John 9:38)—we enter into the safety of Christ.

The Bottom Line: The finished work of Christ makes me safe. The written Word of God makes me sure.

FAITH IS NOT A GAME: Why We Take God at His Word

We don't play games. We simply refuse to edit God's message. To love God is to respect what He said (the Word) and to use the intellect He gave us (the Mind) to obey Him.

We hear the criticism often. People say the Church of Christ plays "Word Games" because we insist on biblical definitions. They say we play "Head Games" because we emphasize logic and study over raw emotion.

But is taking God seriously a game?

Here is why we stand firm on both the "Word" and the "Mind."

1. It’s Not a "Word Game"—It’s the Seed Principle. In Luke 8:11, Jesus gives us the law of the Kingdom: "The seed is the word of God."

We know how this works in nature: If you plant a watermelon seed, you get a watermelon. If you plant a pumpkin seed, you get a pumpkin. You cannot plant a pumpkin seed and "pray" for it to become a watermelon.

The spiritual law is the same. Like begets like.

If we change the definitions—if we change the meaning of "baptism," "church," or "worship"—we are genetically modifying the seed. A modified seed produces a different crop (a denomination or a social club), not the New Testament church. Precision isn't a game; it is the only way to ensure the harvest is pure.

2. It’s Not a "Head Game"—It’s the Great Commandment.

Critics argue that using logic and reason is "legalistic" or "unspiritual." But Jesus commanded us to love God with our whole being:

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with ALL YOUR MIND.” (Matthew 22:37)

God invited us in Isaiah 1:18: "Come now, and let us reason together." The Bereans were called "noble" in Acts 17:11 not because they had a vague spiritual feeling, but because they "searched the Scriptures daily" to verify the truth.

Using your head is not a game; it is your defense against deception. Emotions change. "Vibes" fluctuate. But the truth of God’s Word is an anchor for the soul.

The Bottom Line We don't play games. We simply refuse to edit God's message. To love God is to respect what He said (the Word) and to use the intellect He gave us (the Mind) to obey Him.

"Hold fast the pattern of sound words..." — 2 Timothy 1:13
